AUDITIONS
When do I come to auditions?
You only need to come to one of these auditions. You may, if you wish, come to both evening sessions; keep in mind that there are a lot of people auditioning, and the director may not have time to see your audition twice.
What happens at auditions?
Generally, people are asked to do a cold reading (an unrehearsed reading of a portion of the script). If you have a recent head shot (photograph), please bring it with you. If you do not have one, we will take a polaroid of you at auditions. These photographs are not for publication; they are to help the director remember every person who auditions. Photos are not returned.
What happens at musical auditions?
If you are auditioning for a musical, you will be asked to sing a few bars of a song not in the play, and to bring along the sheet music. Do not bring a cassette because we need to know how you work with an accompanist. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in--you might be asked to learn a simple dance routine. It is possible there will be no cold readings until the callbacks.
What are callbacks?
Callbacks are simply the director calling back some of the people who auditioned to be seen again.
What if my schedule won't allow me to rehearse every evening?
During the audition process, you will be asked to fill out an audition card and a conflict calendar. If the director chooses to cast you, it is with the understanding that you cannot attend rehearsals during the times you have listed conflicts. Please be thorough--a rehearsal calendar takes into account the conflicts of many people. If you are asked to rehearse at a time you have not listed as a conflict, you will be expected to attend rehearsal.

CITY PLAYERS
201 Leeward Island
Clearwater, FL33767
HISTORY
City Players, Inc. was incorporated in 2005, but its history dates back to 1969 when the CIty of Clearwater Parks & Recreation Department along with the Junior League created its Cultural Affairs Division. The Clearwater Communtiy Chorus was formed and presented both concerts and musicals there until 1972 when the two functions were divided. Clearwater City Players was formed to handle the musicals with four productions a year - two for children and two for adults.
When Ruth Eckerd Hall was completed, Clearwater City Players format changed to provide one Broadway musical there in the summer of each year.
In 2003, the City of Clearwater decided to transition its theatre program to an outside organization. The result was the formation of City Players, Inc. in 2005 as an independent not-for-profit corporation . During the 2005-2006 theater season, the Cith and City Players, Inc. entered into a cooperative agreemant under which the City gratiously provided the use of Ruth Eckerd Hall and oth City owned or operated facilities to City Players, Inc. In 2006, City Players applied for 501(c)(3) status.
Over the years, Clearwater City Players had developed a reputation for high quality productions and professionalism while retaining it commitment to the community and the development of local talent. Several of its actors have gone on to careers in professional theater and theater education.City Players, Inc. is committed to continue this tradition.
City Players, Inc. is a true "community" theatre. It will serve over 3000 local patrons this year in a cast production - typically involving 60-90 actors, singers, and dancers; a 12-15 piece orchestra; 30-50 volunteers involved in sets, scenery, props, costumes, marketing, tickets, and backstage will contract locally for needed items and services. Its performers, volunteers, and Board of Trustees serve without compensation.
OPERATION
City Players, Inc. is managed by a Board of Trustees who appoint officers and oversee operations. At the present time there are no members and therefore no dues. All work is done by volunteers who are always needed and welcome. Work on the annual production begins in the spring of the year and culminates in mid to late July with a Broadway Musical. If you'd like to volunteer and learn the theatre world, we welcome your inquiry.
City Players, Inc. must raise its own funds and welcomes donations from both public and private sources. In addition, it holds two fund raising functions, one in the spring and one in the fall of each year.

ST.PETERSBURG LITTLE THEATRE
4025 31st Street South
St. Petersburg, FL 33712
St. Petersburg Little Theatre was founded in 1925 as the Sunshine Players by Dorothy Meadows. The name was later changed to The Players Club. In 1933, the current name - St. Petersburg Little Theatre (SPLT) - was adopted.
SPLT was chartered as a non-profit organization in 1937 to produce amateur theatricals. At the same time it was given the exclusive right to use the name "Little Theatre" in the city of St. Petersburg, in the light of the fact that the term "little theatre" was an inherent name associated with a nationwide movement in the 1920's and 1930's.
Originally, plays were produced for one or two nights, presented at Mirror Lake Junior High School. Admission was thirty-five cents. The first production was The Poor Nut. In the late 1930's, an old grist mill on 2nd Avenue North was purchased for $3,600 to be used as storage space. Thanks to the cooperation from local trade unions, a stage was built, plumbing installed and the exterior plastered.
The American Legion donated wooden seats from their old outdoor arena. This new facility opened in June 1944, with a production of Liliom. Admission was raised to fifty cents - servicemen were admitted free. In the same year, all 302 seats were sold out for the run of the three performances of each play.
In these early years, SPLT became the darling of local newspapers - it was the "in" thing to belong to the Little Theatre. A picture in SPLT's archives shows a banner stretched across Central Avenue at 5th Street, proclaiming "Little Theatre Week". Such popularity caused membership to be closed and a waiting list created.
In the 1950's, property was purchased at SPLT's present location on 31st Street South. Financed by the sale of bonds to it's members, the building is one of the few facilities in the Tampa Bay area erected as a theater. The first production in the new space was Teahouse of the August Moon in September 1958, and the season was expanded to accommodate six plays. In 1966 SPLT produced it's first musical, The Pajama Game. The mortgage was burned in 1983.
The building has undergone two major renovations: The costume room and "green room" were added, and the original screened-in verandah was enclosed to form the lobby in the 1960's. In 1994, the new ADA-compliant restroom wing was constructed. The new lobby doubled as theater space in 1997, with the world premiere of the musical Jung at Heart. This production also generated a tradition of lobby shows.
Throughout it's history as Florida's oldest, continuously operating community theater, SPLT has presented up to six major varied shows per season, offered classes, extended opportunity, reached out to the community and provided the best entertainment to patrons and friends in Tampa Bay.
